Gone to Hell

GONE TO HELL
Sometimes, sometimes you got to smile
You got to go that extra mile
Even if it’s all in vain
And it hurts, it hurts to carry on
When it feels like every hope is gone
Yeah, it’s gone to hell as far as I can tell
And you, what was I supposed to do /
You led me such a dance, and I gave you every chance
So long, it was time that I was gone
There’s nothing left to keep me hanging on
It was gone to hell as far as I could tell
And if it comes to mind
And I guess it might from time to time
I hope that I can smile and say, it doesn’t matter anyway
But as far as I can tell
Everything just went to hell
It’s just the way this crazy world goes round
Like a fairground merry-go-round
One day you’re up the next you’re down
Everybody acts the clown
Just pick me up on your way down

The Likes of You

THE LIKES OF YOU
Oh I do get weary, watching the world go by
Same old places, same old faces, same old wonder why
Good times and teardrops, round and round they go
Hand in hand like lovers, can't let each other go
Well I've been around that merry-go-round..
More than a time or two
I’ve laughed a little, cried a little
I been mistreated too
I've watched the sun go down in flames
And I've watched the world turn blue
But I aint never, never ever, seen the likes of you
And I want to be drowning in those big brown eyes
Listening to the sweetest lies
I want to sink right down without a trace
I want to die right here in your embrace
Maybe one time in a lifetime
A wish or a dream may come true
‘Cos I aint never, never ever, seen the likes of you

Sweet Marie

SWEET MARIE
You been talking in your sleep
Oh my sweet Marie
You been talking, honey-talking
But honey you ain’t talking to me
Late at night, when the moon is bright
And the midnight oil is burning
I can hear you calling out
Tossing and a-turning
So who you talking to Marie?
Does he think you're special?
Does he know the nature of your love is superficial?
That you won't stay round long enough
To reap what you been sowing
Only long enough to check
Which way the wind is blowing
Oh Marie, sweet Marie, you as sweet as candy
Why don't you just stay a while and lay some loving on me
Sweet Marie , sweet Marie
I wish you could stay longer
Oh Marie, sweet Marie, you satisfy my hunger
But you just like a honey bee
And me, I'm like a flower
And you just come and go Marie
Just like a summer shower

Wedding at Joshua Tree

WEDDING AT JOSHUA TREE
Oh she is my darling, and she always will be
Since the day we got married down at Joshua Tree
The sun it was blazing and the world seemed so gay
Everything was just perfect for our wedding day
Oh my darling was crying, but her blue eyes were shining
As we both filled right up with all the love we were feeling
Through the tears and the laughter we held hands together
As we fought for the words that would bind us for ever
Then we dined at ‘The Crossroads’ on our way back to town
Danced around Kathleen’s kitchen till the sun went on down
And then later that evening at ‘The Blue Coyote’
We drank margaritas with our dear friends the Knoxes
It was just like a movie, perfect as could be
On the day we got married down at Joshua Tree
Oh she is my darling, and she always will be
Ever since we got married down at Joshua Tree
In 2007, in February

ALTERNATIVE BIRTHDAY GIFTS
Mommy’s little princess & daddy’s little boy
The best advice they’ll probably get won’t ever bring them joy
Its dog eat dog… live life fast… trust nobody…… kiss my ass…
Don’t be a clown
That’s the kind of life philosophy that’ll only bring you down
Kids these days they get a real bad press
But you only need to look at mom and dad
To understand why life’s a mess
Their rationale for raising kids sure puts logic to the test!
Like Billy on his birthday got a semi-automatic
To accessorise his tattoos and his leather biker jacket
He’s thirteen… he’s thirteen and he’s mean…
From a baby to a full-grown man with not much in between
Betty got a breast enlargement on the day she turned sixteen
From a training bra to a ‘Double D’ she’s hot to make the scene
She’s daddy’s little queen... happy birthday sweet sixteen
From a baby to a full-grown woman with not much in between
Kids these days they get a real hard time
But if there’s nothing to believe in it’s easy to quit trying
If you got no dreams to follow you’re just drifting down the line
Mommy’s little princess & daddy’s little boy
The best advice they’ll probably get won’t ever bring them joy
Its dog eat dog… live life fast… trust nobody…… kiss my ass…
Don’t be a clown
That’s the kind of life philosophy guaranteed to bring you down

Shadows on the Ground

SHADOWS ON THE GROUND
Deep in the dark of the night
Deep in the dark of the night
I heard a voice… and I saw a light
Deep in the dark of the night
I thought I heard somebody call my name boys
Thought I heard somebody call my name
Deep in the dark of the long lonely night
Somebody called my name
But when I looked around
When I looked around
Wasn’t nothing there but shadows on the ground
When I looked around
I thought I heard the sound of a drum
Thought I heard the sound of a drum
Deep in the dark of the long lonely night
I thought I heard a drum
Footsteps were marching in time boys
Footsteps were marching in time
Deep in the dark of the long lonely night
Footsteps marched in time
But when I looked around
When I looked around
Wasn’t nothing there but shadows on the ground
When I looked around
I guess it’s just something on the wind boys
Guess it’s just something on the wind
Deep in the dark of the long lonely night
Just something on the wind
Aint no call to be afraid boys
Aint no call to be afraid
Deep in the dark of the long lonely night
Aint no call to be afraid
‘Cos when you look around
When you look around
Won’t be nothing there but shadows on the ground
When you look around

Rachael

RACHAEL
Into each life a little rain must fall
But without rain there’d be no life at all
No life, no love, no laughter and no song
No reason to believe
No hope to carry on
Rachael…. you rock me to the core
You lift me up and then you lift me up some more
Our time though short and oh so bittersweet
Brings music to my soul every time we meet
There’ll come a time when every sorrow wanes
And in its place only joy remains
That speaks your name forever in my heart
And ever holds you close whenever we’re apart
Rachael…this world will be a poorer place
Without you…without your courage and your grace
Sweet child of love shine brightly like the sun
To help me carry on whenever you are gone

THE BALLAD OF BILLY HORTON
Billy Horton was a farm boy.. he worked hard night and day
Had no time for women ‘til his mama passed away
Then he went up to the city to get himself a wife
But he wound up paying double ‘cos all he bought was trouble
Just goes to show that you can’t judge a book by the cover
1920 was a bad year on the farm
The shack burned down and Billy bust his arm
His crops died, his horse died and the hens won’t even lay
And his wife, though she’s pretty, hit the country from the city
He ain’t got no money and she ain’t got no pity for the man
Billy put a rifle to her head
Squeezed on the trigger ‘til he knowed that she was dead
Then he took her body and he laid it in the barn
Then went back to the shack for a Bowie and an axe
And the very next day the hens began to lay
Hey.. I wonder where Billy’s old lady got to ?
Billy he went into town next day
Sold up the farm so that he move away
He bought some bacon and some bullets for his gun
Now he’s been on the run since 1921
But nobody but Billy knows what the poor boy’s done
And his wife though she’s pretty,
Hit the country from the city
Hey… I wonder where Billy’s old lady got to?

I'm Ready
04:28
|
|||
I’M READY
Heaven above let your sweet love
Shine down on me, shine on me
Let my sins burn in the fire of your cleansing love
'Cos I'm ready to let my saviour in
Please hear my plea, Oh I'm in misery
Help me to change, help me to see my sweet saviour's face
I've been so wrong for so long & I know that cheaters never win
But now I'm ready to let my saviour in
Lord take me & shape me & make me your own
Don't leave me Jesus to stand all alone
Show me a sign, light me a light to guide me tonight
'Cos I'm ready...yeah..to let my saviour in
Take my hand...Jesus take my hand
I've been lost, going round & round & round & round
Walk by my side through the storm & lead me safely home
'Cos I'm ready...yeah..to let my saviour in

Just Another Border
04:00
|
|||
JUST ANOTHER BORDER
Just another border.. just like any other
From Africa to India they keep us from each other
Oh Kathleen ‘maith an cailin’
Drove us down to Mexico to a place we’d never been
Country music on the radio, old songs we used to know
Like ‘Vaya Con Dios’ and ‘Tell Him He’ll Have To Go’
Through Coachella valley along highway one eleven
Migrant workers eating dust on that long highway to heaven
Then on down to Mexicali where painted Madonnas
Make faded promises about better tomorrows
In that bitter vale of tears the faithful toil and pray
And keep right on believing there’ll come a better day
But it’s just another border, just like any other
From Africa to India they keep us from each other
Oh Kathleen I’m glad these eyes have seen the sorry truth that gives the lie
To ‘far off fields being green’
Oh Kathleen ‘maith an cailin’
Drove us down to Mexico to a place we’d never been
Kathleen drove us down to Mexico to a place we’d never been

Square Peg

SQUARE PEG
I'm a square peg in a round hole, baby it's true
If I were a bird in a nest I’d have to be a Cuckoo
'Cos I don't fit and I got no place to go
and there ain't nobody gonna save my soul
I'm a square peg in a round hole, baby it's true
If I were a town on a map you'd never find me
If I were a telephone you'd never hear me ring
And if I'm a little short on class
I don't give a monkey's or a rat's ass
'Cos that's me... hey baby... that's me
If I were a page in a book I'd be the one that's missing....
If I were a hole in your shoe I'd find you water real quick....
Anything that makes no sense, like a 12 foot hole in a 5 foot fence
That's me... hey baby... that's me
If I were just a little less bloody-minded
I might not get so blinded by the light
Who's that fool wearing dark sunglasses at midnight ?
Can you see?... is it me?
Well.. I guess it had to be!

WE’LL GET THERE BEFORE IT CLOSES
All too soon we die I guess, so me, I'm gonna take a rest
And contemplate this living while I can
Gonna dig out my old fishing pole & go on down to the fishing hole
And try to figure out what's for the best
Now some folks think I'm lazy, others say I got no ambition
But let me tell you that's not strictly true
Yes, it's true I'm in no hurry and I doubt if I'll be sorry
If I don't get to die before you do
But we'll get there before it closes so let's take time to smell the roses .
And never give a thought to coming last
'Cos we're all going the same way and we'll get there in the end .
So why does living have to be so fast?
Well we race right through our childhood and headlong into youth
Hardly take a breath along the way
Then we rush straight into marriage and that double baby carriage
Before we even stop to ask the time of day
There's a lot of stuff out there to ponder, lots of magic and pure wonder
For anyone who’ll take the time to see
It's so easy to get sucked into a whirlwind of a life
'Til you can't see the woodland for the trees
But we'll get there before it closes so let's take time to smell the roses .
And never give a thought to coming last
'Cos we're all going the same way and we'll get there in the end .
So why does living have to be so fast?
There's so much out there going on but I feel no need to be the one
Who always has to breast the winning tape
I don't mind being second...and I don't mind being third
To tell the truth I don't mind coming last
‘Cos we'll get there before it closes so let's take time to smell the roses .
And never give a thought to coming last
'Cos we're all going the same way and we'll get there in the end .
So why does living have to be so fast?
