The wind blows cold across the water Onto these northern shores Where I was born, where I was brought up And where I once belonged Where I learned about love and I learned to be strong And I learned right from wrong But somewhere down the line I took a wrong turn And I lost my way back home I remember a pretty little dancer She held my soul to ransom I remember and the memory haunts me Oh.. oh... and then some I recall the wonder of it all And though I try to hold on Deep down in my soul I know... I know those days are really gone I can still see Portstewart harbour And the shelter on the hill Where lovers walked in the old days Oh.. oh.. and they still do And though it looks the same from a distance Nothing stays the same And when I look around me in my hometown Nothing much remains Of the things I loved and the things I knew And those pretty little dancing girl memories of you But the wind still blows cold across the water Onto these northern shores Where I was born, where I was brought up And where I once belonged © Errol Walsh

We both made mistakes For which we need to make amends So why don’t we start over again It’s never too late To start out with a brand new slate So why don’t we start over again We’ve done some time And walked some ragged lines So many times before But now we’ve found Some kind of middle ground I’m not about to let that go…. oh no So why don’t we just listen & tell each other what’s been missing Why don’t we start over again It would be a sin For us to just give in After all that we’ve been through Our chemistry Is a beautiful mystery So honey… please don’t let it go… oh no Lets keep it together Through fair or stormy weather Why don’t we start over again Yeah why don’t we just start over again © Errol Walsh

On the far side of town As the lights flicker out And the stars burn like white coals On a hot summer night A young girl sighs softly As she slumbers & dreams Of a shy young man’s smile And just what it might mean They first spied each other ‘Cross a hard-wood dance floor Like two stranded lovers on opposite shores Her smile said ‘come take me But don’t play me false’ As the band opened up with The John Dinny Waltz They clung to each other And they danced cheek to cheek And a spark flew between them Though not a word did they speak Lost in each other As the whole world stood still Their hearts beat like thunder As they savoured the thrill And as they closed their eyes tightly And swayed back & forth They fell in love to the strains of The John Dinny Waltz © Errol Walsh & Ted Ponsonby

Seventeen 04:05
It's been a while since I was seventeen And I don't think much about ‘old used to be's But now and then it all comes back to me Like a pain and then I see your face again I got your message from a friend today Surprised to hear you say you're coming over I read your words and fell into a dream How long it's been since we were lovers But you can't pick up the past When time has healed the old wounds over And yesterday has grown into today And you have to face the truth It's no use starting over With the same old song and nothing new to say It's over now....it's really over The threads that bound us then Have long ago been broken The hopes and dreams we shared are past & gone If I could do it all again I wouldn't change a moment But it's over now....it's all over now...it's really over I cast my memory back to another time When we were young and all the world was fine, so fine When you and I We were seventeen Just seventeen © Errol Walsh

All alone in this prison Deep in the still of the night Wait by the window just watching Praying for one ray of light And the clock on the wall counts the hours that pass Like a slow train that never quite ends I'm a deep-sea diver Going down slow with the pressure bends & it's so cold Whose is that voice I keep hearing Why can't you show me your face Why do my thoughts have no anchor Hopelessly drifting in space Here come the medicine man, with his medicine chest Potions and chemical spells Driving me down Driving me down to this lonely hell & it's so cold I can't seem to keep my two feet on the ground It's falling away from me now I can't get a grip on what's going down Somebody please won't you throw me a line I'm going down, deep-sea diving Going down, deep-sea diving & it's so cold © Errol Walsh

When love is hot the world is on fire Shooting stars and flaming desire & love can be sweet, there’s no denying Cool & deep and oh so satisfying But when you go down to that well You better watch out that you don’t drown ‘Cos when you fall in love it’s a long way down Its easy to fall, it just takes one look Then in no time at all She can read you like a book It’s a risky business ‘Cos in the twinkling of an eye You can be falling, falling, falling and it’s a long way down When it’s sweet You see the whole world through her eyes And every moment is just a wonderful surprise But when it’s not, you got to be prepared So be scared my friend!... be very scared! You better watch out where you put your feet And make sure that it’s on solid ground ‘Cos when you fall in love it’s a long way down © Errol Walsh

In a nowhere part of a nowhere town A poor boy grew up alone Abandoned by the ones he loved Taken from his family’s home Taken from his family’s home Billy's favourite anything that he could find Was anything made out of wood And Billy, he had this raging need To burn everything he could To burn everything he could To burn everything he could I guess you could say he has a burning desire And everybody knows that Billy loves to play with fire Billy hates the whole damn world and if he could He’d burn it down to the ground Yeah he’d burn it right down to the ground Say hello to Matchbox Billy Well I guess you know that every poor boy Is still some mother's son But Billy, he never was a hard case He just never had no-one No he just never had no-one He just never had no-one So Billy said goodbye to all his pain The only way he knew how With a full jerry-can and a matchbox in his hand Goodbye, I’m leaving now Goodbye, I’m leaving now © Errol Walsh & Slim Pickens

Feels like it might be time To head out on the road again Take a last look around As the years keep rolling down the line Mmm hmmmmm Time keeps rushing by Like shooting stars across the sky Watch them as they fly Sometimes we just need to say goodbye It all goes by so fast It’s all over in a flash All the dreams we left behind All the truth we couldn’t find Weighs heavy on my mind.... heavy on my mind Mmm hmmmmm Funny how it goes I guess nobody knows what lies Right around the bend Or when the road might reach the end ‘Cos it all goes by so fast It’s all over in a flash All the dreams we left behind All the truth we couldn’t find Weighs heavy on my mind....weighs heavy on my mind… © Errol Walsh

When all that you got is a hammer Every problem starts to look just like a nail And when that don’t work out right And you still can’t see the light Could be you’re headed down a one way tunnel When you’re down in a hole you got to stop digging Forget about that hammer & that nail What you need is a friend , not a shovel You need somebody you can call to go your bail But you’re running out of luck and you’re running out of time You used up all your friends and you cleaned out all of mine You been living 'a la mode' like you hit the mother-lode Now seems to me my friend you’re running out of road You’ve had friends you could number by the dozen You’ve had women you could call on night or day But you keep pushing on your luck And this time you’ve come unstuck And now my friend you’re running out of road You’re out of luck...you’re out of time You’re out of touch... you’re running blind You’re out of step.... and you’re out of line And finally you ran right out of road © Errol Walsh & Rory Clements

The Grey Mare’s Tail Plunges down from Lurig’s crown To the green wooded slopes below And through Doory, Barahooley and along to Toberwine Is where the glen’s gabhair fiáin roam In Glassmullen bluebells cover the ground Midst the glorious bright yellow gorse Its springtime again and my heart is on the mend In Glenariff, Queen of the Glens From old Cloghcor to Redbay’s rolling shore From forest to shining sea The morning mist lies over fields of buttercups and clover In the summer time Sparkling in sunlight silver and gold Through the green clad mountainside The river sings a song of hearth and home In Glenariff, Queen of the Glens Where the autumn leaves can only be Painted by God’s own hand It steals my breath when I look out over yonder Lost in wonder, it just steals my breath Then when winter wraps her cold fingers round Every creature and every tree Silence falls and all the world is still Under black velvet starlit sky When my days are done and my mortal race is run Let my soul be returned to the glen Let my heart be at rest in the place that I love best In Glenariff, Queen of the Glens © Errol Walsh & Rory Clements

My Old Shoes 04:18
She said that she'd never been so lonesome She said she's sorry she’d been so untrue She said if I had only made her happy Some other man would not be wearing my old shoes She told me that her mother never liked me Nor her sister, nor her daddy too She said I had no friends and our time was at an end Just because of all the things I didn’t do Yes just because of all the things I didn’t do Now I always did like her mother And her sister and her daddy too But I didn't mow that lawn and I didn't build that barn And these are just two of the things I didn’t do Yeah... these are just two of the things I didn’t do Well I hope that someday when you get married That you love your family just like I do But don’t forget there is sometimes a price you have to pay And there are always things you should and shouldn’t do So don’t forget to pay attention to others But always to your own self be true And if things don’t work out right though you labour day and night Your best will always be the best that you can do So remember son, if you ever do get married I know you’ll love your family just like I do But if you don’t mow that lawn and if you don’t build that barn Some other man could end up wearing your old shoes Just because of all the things you didn’t do Yeah …just because of all the things you didn’t do © Errol Walsh & Peter Byrne

Somewhere in the middle of it all It ain't no coincidence That I'm sitting on this fence I can't make my mind up where the pieces fall They’re just somewhere in the middle of it all Right from the start I been walking a line That stretches down the middle of my heart and my mind Should I lean to the left, or should I lean to the right? And does it really matter, is it all so black and white? Well the only thing that's clear to me Is that I stand in doubt Am I outside looking in or inside looking out? Well I ain’t ever going to learn to dance If I don't take a step or two and learn to take a chance And it really doesn't matter if I stumble and fall I'll just land somewhere in the middle of it all Somewhere in the middle of it all It ain't no coincidence That I'm sitting on this fence I can't make my mind up where the pieces fall They’re just somewhere in the middle of it all Ask me again in a few more years or so About the choices that I made and where I aim to go But there's no guarantee that I'll be any wiser then But I might know a step or two that I didn't ‘way back when’ So don't be too surprised to find that nothing's changed at all And I'm still somewhere in the middle of it all Somewhere in the middle of it all It ain't no coincidence That I'm sitting on this fence . I can't make my mind up where the pieces fall They’re just somewhere in the middle of it all © Errol Walsh & Dave Luke

Loony Tune 02:27
You got me crazy as a loon I'm a whistling loony tune If you're ever going to love me Baby better make it soon Oh baby no Baby please don't go Figure what you want from me And then just let me know ‘Cos first you say you will Then you say you won't You tell me that you love me Then you say you don't What am I supposed to do? How do I know what's true? You tell me you were meant for me And then you say we're through You talk to me sincere Say the words that I want to hear Then you turn me right around And stand me on my ear Well I don't understand But then I'm just a man It could take me a whole lifetime Just to figure out your plan © Errol Walsh
